Historic Cargo Event Scheduled for November 2-4, 2011
Thousands of air cargo and sea cargo industry leaders and experts will gather in Miami for a concurrent conference and exhibition on November 2-4, 2011. Executives from the major aviation, logistics and sea cargo corporations serving the Western Hemisphere are already lining up for the conference and exhibition sponsored by the Miami International Airport, the Port of Miami and the World Trade Center Miami.
The Port of Miami and Miami International Airport will again host Air Cargo & SeaCargo Americas. The ports, under the leadership of Bill Johnson and Jose Abreu have supported the event since its inception. Both men believe that the event will increase two-way cargo growth for the Americas by providing a world class forum on international aviation, maritime and logistics issues and showcasing the latest aviation, maritime and security products, e-commerce solutions, technologies and services.
President of Colombia Announces Commitment to the Project for the Restructuring of Santiago Vila Airport at Flandes.
Apr 18 - Opening the way with the locomotors of progress, with smiles on their faces, President Juan Manuel Santos and the governor of Cundinamarca, Andres Gonzalez delivered the good news for Flandes that among the development plan is the project for the restructuring of Santiago Vila airport at Flandes. The President’s announcement gives confidence and credibility to the investors of the airport project.

US and Saudi Arabia initial Open Skies Agreement
Apr 18 – The Agreement, which will be applied on the basis of comity and reciprocity pending its entry into force, will liberalize the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Santiago Chile’s International Airport Wins 2010 Air Cargo Excellence Award.
Apr 18 – Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL) of Santiago, Chile won the Air Cargo Excellence Award in the category of airports that move more than 200,000 tons of freight per year. Following SCL in the top five in Latin America were: 2nd – Jorge Chavez International (LIM) of Lima, Peru; 3rd – El Dorado International (BOG) of Bogota, Colombia; 4th – Guarulhos Gov. Andres Franco Montoro International (GRU) of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and 5th – Lic. Benito Juarez International (MEX) of Mexico City, Mexico.

Emirates Increasing its Presence in Latin America
Apr 17 - The Dubai-based airline has announced it is adding flights to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires beginning on January 3rd, 2012. The daily flight will be nonstop from Dubai to Rio de Janeiro and on to Buenos Aires.

New Asia-Latin America Ocean Cargo Service Reflects Market Shift
Apr 11 - Announcement of Evergreen Line, COSCO Container Lines (COSCON), Pacific International Lines (PIL) and Wan Hai Lines (WHL) jointly launching a new service linking the Far East and the West Coast of South America (WCSA) coincides with news of record growth in both China and Latin America. According to the World Shipping Council, the top 20 container ports are within China, all are growing exponentially and South America was the second fastest growing region with its ports increasing container traffic 17.6 percent in 2010.

Open Skies Between the EU and Brazil
Apr 10 – A comprehensive air service between the EU and Brazil was initiated. The agreement will allow the EU airlines to operate direct flights to any destination in Brazil from any city in Europe and assures that any restrictions on routes, prices and the number of weekly flights will be applicable.

Colombia and Israel Have Signed an MOU to Expand the Market
Apr 5 - While the announcement does not mention Open Skies, according to source have stated the agreement calls for a bilateral freeing up the number of airlines and frequencies they can operate between the two countries with connecting points in Europe. Air cargo is also included in the agreement.

Air France-KLM, Delta Announce Expansion of International Flights from Florida
Apr 1 - The joint venture will be adding 14 weekly flights between Europe and Florida, with 11 connecting Miami from London and Amsterdam.

WCO Supports Development of Costa Rica Customs Strategic Plan for 2011-2015
Mar 31 - At the request of the Director General of the National Customs Service of Costa Rica, World Customs Organization accredited experts met at the end of March with Costa Rica Customs management team. The objective was to revise the Customs administration’s Mission and Vision statements, and to set out new strategic development objectives for the years to come. A process was put underway through which the Costa Rican administration will prepare a detailed strategic plan, including specific strategies and projects that will build the capacity of this organization to better meet its mission.

Israel and US Open Skies Agreement Goes Into Effect
Mar 30 - On March 29 the Open Skies agreement, which was signed on December 1, 2010, between Israel and the US went into effect. The agreement strengthens and expands the already strong trade and tourism links with Israel and will increase air service between the two countries.

Watch-out, Flowers are Learning to Swim
Mar 20 - Fresh flowers by sea! The increasing cost of air freight (due in part to cost of fuel) some groups, seeking alternatives to reduce cost and obtain a fresher and longer lasting product, incursion not only into “point-to-point” flights but also the maritime alternative and to the surprise of many, the maritime trials to Europe have been successful due to the use of refrigerated containers and a strict control of maintaining the cold chain. Buyers have discovered not only lower cost but that their flowers transported by ocean vessel arrive their warehouses in perfect conditions, very good quality, last more days than those arriving by air. Now the campaign is routed to have the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Customs (USCBP) make the necessary adaptations and adjustments to facilitate the import of flowers through the sea ports.

Deep Dredge of Port of Miami
Mar 4 - The Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, announced the allocation of US$77 million to the Port of Miami to deepen the channel to -50 feet so larger ships can gain access to the port. The Port’s Deep Dredge project is timed to be coincide with the opening of an expanded Panama Canal in 2014, which will allow a new generation of larger cargo vessels to pass through the Canal. The Port of Miami has been in regular contact with officials in both in Tallahassee (state capital) and Washington DC to ensure this project moves along schedule for 2014 completion. The Corps of Engineers has assured the Port and Members of the Florida Congressional Delegation that this project is a top priority. The importance of this project to the entire state of Florida was touted during the Governor’s port related trade mission to Panama in March..

Tatyana Arslanova, Executive President, AirBridgeCargo
Tatyana joined the Volga-Dnepr Group of Companies after graduating from Ulyanovsk State University. Having started her career in the commercial department of Volga Dnepr airlines she succeeded to become Director of strategy and marketing department and later on – Vice president, marketing and strategy of Volga Dnepr Group. In the end of 2008 Tatyana took the lead of AirBridgeCargo’s department of strategy, marketing and sales at the position of Executive Senior Vice-president where her role included development of the scheduled cargo airline’s business plan and control over its implementation, sales and marketing strategy in the key areas of network development, sales infrastructure and strategic partnerships. After more than 10 year experience in the Group effective from January,1 2010 Tatyana is in charge of overall ABC’s performance in her new position as Executive President, ABC.
Solomon Cai, CEO, Globelink China Logistics Limited
Solomon graduated from China Europe International Business School and got his degree of EMBA, and has more than 17 years experience in logistics, freight forwarding and shipping industry.
As CEO of Globelink China Logistics, Solomon takes full responsibility for strategies and development. Under his management, the company had become one of the Top 10 Private Owned Logistics/Freight Forwarding company in China, with a staff of more than 2000, and over 30 branch offices in major cities in China. It’s owns and operates about 500,000 sqm of warehouse facilities and container depots. Also, it owns a shipping agency company called “Unisco Xiamen”. In 2007, China Logistics acquired its qualification to become one of the official logistics service providers in China 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
Before setting up CHINA LOGISTICS, Solomon used to work for Maersk as a General Manager for Multi Modal Transportation. From 1995 to 1998, he put up Xiamen Super Chain Logistics Co. Ltd and in the same period managed Xiamen Xiang Yu Singamas Container Limited, a joint venture established by Maersk and Singamas Container -- a HKG public listed company and Xiang Yu Group. From 1999 to 2000, Solomon served as General Manager for Shanghai Tie Yang Multi Modal Transportation Co. Ltd. a joint venture established by Maersk Line and Container Center of the Ministry of Railways.

Suzanne is founder of Customs & Trade Solutions, Inc. and a Licensed Customs Broker, has over twenty-three year in international supply chain management, having worked in the Ports of Detroit, Miami, Newark and Philadelphia. Suzanne has counseled corporations involved in the importation of Automotive Vehicles and Parts, Electronics, Wearing Apparel and Machinery. She has worked with clients during their closing audits with U.S. Customs, assisted companies in participating in cargo security programs such as C-TPAT at Tier 3 levels, and counseled corporations on international trade law issues. Consultant and author of numerous articles, in 2006, she was recognized by the Journal of Commerce as one of the top 20 Women in Transportation.
