THE CONFERENCE TOPICS AND SPEAKERS

On Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 the XI Air Cargo Americas and the V SeaCargo Americas International Congresses will open with a joint session at 9:00 a.m. titled “Economic Outlook 2012-2013: Best Prospects for Growth”. Three renowned industry experts will present their respective views on the trends in the logistics industry in the Americas, as well as present their forecasts for hemispheric, air and sea trade growth through 2013. The confirmed speakers are:

  • Mr. John Price, Managing Director, Americas Market Intelligence (Hemispheric);
  • Dr. David Blond Ph.D., President, Queri International (Air); and
  • Dr. John Martin Ph.D., President, Martin & Associates (Sea)

The session on Economic Outlook will be followed by two concurrent panels at 11:00 a.m., one on the “State-of-the-Air Cargo Industry in the Americas” and the other on the “State-of-the-Sea Cargo Industry in the Americas”. The panelists, senior executives of successful air carriers, ocean carriers and ports, will present their visions, strategies and forecasts for the future of the air cargo and the sea cargo industries in the Western Hemisphere. Both panels will address what issues are affecting or may impact the growth of air cargo and sea cargo respectively; what market segments should have the greatest growth potential over the two years; and what kind of capacity growth do they foresee over the next two years and how will it impact rates and competition.

The confirmed air cargo panelists are:

  • David Brooks, President, American Airlines Cargo;
  • Mauricio Nieto M., CEO, Aeromexico Cargo;
  • Nick Rhodes, Director Cargo, Cathay Pacific;
  • Peter Scholten, VP Commercial, Saudi Airlines Cargo Company;

  • Rodolf Sabonge, Vice President of Planning and Marketing for the Panama Canal Authority; and

These panelists will also present their views on whether any progress has been made on easing the rivalry among cruise and cargo for terminal space in the Caribbean; what are the current capacity constraints impacting the rebuilding of Haiti; and how much competition will the Mariel transshipment terminals bring to the Ports of Miami, Kingston, Freeport, Caucedo and other ports aspiring to benefit from the larger ships that will be able to transit the Panama Canal upon completion of the new set of locks in 2014.

Information on the important topics to be addressed on Thursday, November 3rd and Friday, November 4th will follow in the next newsletters.
